Fed girls thrash Aruba
Bermuda's top tennis girls notched their first victory in El Salvador over the weekend when they beat Aruba 3-0 in the junior Fed Cup.
The team of Catherine Cooke, Cayla Cross and Carolita Joseph had lost all three of their previous ties without registering a single win, but took great delight on Saturday in handing out a similar battering to the opposition.
Number one seed Cross defeated Ayoni Guda 7-6, 3-6, 6-2 while Cooke then dispatched Nagela Buckley 6-0, 6-1.
In the doubles, Cross and Joseph crushed Buckley and Josephine Williams 6-2, 6-3 to take the match in convincing style.
In Davis Cup action, however, the Bermuda boys were once again on the receiving end of a thorough beating, this time at the hands of Trinidad and Tobago.
At first string, Philip Cooper lost in straight sets to Liam Gomez 6-1, 6-2 while Leonard Wade succumbed to Leon Fraser 6-1, 6-3.
And in the doubles the defeat was equally as resounding, with Cooper and Neal Towlson losing 6-1, 6-2 to Gomez and Chris Brash.
The boys lost all four of their Davis Cup ties 3-0.
