Bermuda’s annual Poppy Appeal has launched with a presentation to Rena Lalgie, the Governor, of the first remembrance poppy ahead of the November 11 commemoration of members of the armed forces.

Ms Lalgie was given the symbol of military personnel who died in war by Isabell Flood, a veteran of the Second World War with the Royal Canadian Air Force.

The fundraiser for Bermuda’s war veterans and widows now covers serving and former soldiers in need.

Carol Everson, a caseworker with the Bermuda Legion, which runs the poppy appeal, said the charity would open its pop-up shop in Hamilton on November 1, in the Russell Eve building on Church Street next to the bus terminal.
