In a track and field event for all schools in the West End, Sandys Middle School rose to the top, winning best overall and best middle school.

Fourteen schools participated in the West End Athletic Club (WEAC) Schools Track and Field Challenge at the National Centre last month.

In a prize ceremony held recently at the Bank of Bermuda, the top three schools in Primary, Middle and High School, received $300 for first place, $200 for second and $100 for third.

Anthony Raynor, WEAC president said: “We are strong believers that our Island’s young athletes should be given the opportunity to participate in healthy, athletic competition.

“Once again, we express our gratitude and thanks to the Bank of Bermuda Foundation for their continued support of our event.

“The Schools Track and Field Challenge has shown continued development and success since its inception, and we look forward to next year’s competition.”

While Sandys Middle School won the overall award they also won first place for their category and Mount St. Agnes won first place for high schools with Prospect Primary topping the primary schools.

Furbert placed first in the 400 metres, 800 metres and high jump, winning three gold medals and Clark took first place in the 100 metres and 200 metres, third in the long jump, winning two gold medals and one bronze.
