Pembroke Council to celebrate its roots
The Pembroke Parish Council, in conjunction with the North Village Trust, is to hold its first Family Community Connection Day.
Promotion of family values and education are the main reasons behind the event, which will be held on Saturday, May 19, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
It will be held in the area of the Pembroke park, in Parsons Road, all the way to the playground, which is located below St. Augustine Hill.
Joy Wilson-Tucker, council secretary, says everyone is invited, especially current and past Pembroke residents.
"We're trying to bring all families from the community together under one umbrella, since this year has been declared as the year of the family," she said.
"It's for anyone who basically wants to come out and enjoy the day. And, throughout the Island, many churches have chosen May as a month to celebrate family values."
Performances by majorette groups, gombeys, dancers, games and old-fashioned story-telling are among the activities that will be featured.
Food stalls and lessons in crafts will also be present, with available information on the history of the Council. For more information, contact Joy Wilson-Tucker at 295-6849.
