Seth Campbell turned in the amazing figures of eight wickets for ten runs off 6.1 overs as Western Stars hammered Devonshire Rec by 151 runs yesterday in what was a preview to next weekend’s first match in the best-of-three series in the Central Counties Cup.

After restricting Stars to 183 for seven in a match reduced to 39 overs per side after early-afternoon rain, Devonshire Rec were routed by the seam bowling of Campbell, who quickly had them reeling at 19 for six as he and Jason Lowe ran through the visiting side’s innings in only 12.1 overs. Lowe finished with two for 22 from six overs, with only Kenny Phillip on 13 reaching double figures.

Earlier Phillip, a former St George’s Cup Match and Bermuda fast bowler, led the Devonshire bowling with three for 31 from ten overs, while his new-ball partner, Paul Carr-Harvey, claimed two for 19 from eight overs.

Seion Darrell was top scorer for Stars with 59, batting at No 7, while captain Nyon Steede scored 35, opener Ryan Tyrrell 26 and Wayne Campbell 24.

At White Hill Field, Somerset Bridge were similarly dominant in beating PHC by 117 runs.

Somerset Bridge captain Noel Woods led from the front with a sterling all around performance that doomed PHC to defeat.

Woods was spectacular with both bat and ball, as he slammed 34 not out in helping the home team to their best total of the season of 199 for seven. He was helped greatly in the run-scoring department by Jahnoi Bean-Wilson, whose 38 was the top scorer, while Donnie Charles tallied 35.

For PHC, Mark Smith managed two wickets, while Cory Burgess, Ellsworth Bean and Jade Morrissey each claimed one apiece.

Opening the bowling, Woods took three of the first four wickets to fall to return figures of three for 18 from five overs. Charles likewise earned three scalps, while Clarence Trott and Shawn Riley took two wickets apiece.

Khiry Furbert top-scored for PHC with 21, while Dante Wellman and Dean Richards scored 18 and 15 respectively.

In the Saturday match at Southampton Oval, Jade Darrell hit 82 not out and Cameron Jeffers claimed five wickets for 30 runs from nine overs as Warwick beat Bermuda Undeer-17 by 50 runs.

The match was reduced to 44 overs per side because of rain after Warwick won the toss and batted first, scoring 185 for seven before restricting the youngsters to 135.

Darrell, coming in at No 6 when the score was 23 for four, played a vital innings as he and captain Lionel Cann set about repairing the early damage with a fifth-wicket stand of 85. Cann scored 28 before he was caught by Nzari Paynter off Antoine Seaman. Chris Kawaley added 22 not out in the tailend after he and Darrell added 68 for the unbroken eighth wicket.

Micah Simons claimed three for 31 for Bermuda Under-17, while Antoine Seaman, the seventh bowler used, had figures of two for 13 from three overs.

Shakeal Outerbridge, batting at three, was the top bat for Bermuda Under-17s with 28.
