Bermuda’s top junior athletes primed for Schools Relay Classic
Many of the athletes that competed for Bermuda at the recent Carifta Games in Trinidad & Tobago will be on display during the 16th Annual Schools Relay Classic on Friday.
About 350 athletes from 24 schools will battle for honours in a number of divisions at at Flora Duffy Stadium, with the event hosted by Bermuda Pacers Track Club in conjunction with title sponsor AIG.
The winners in each category will receive $3,600 to go towards their athletic programme, with local senior men’s and women’s football teams also invited to compete in the 4x100 metres relay.
There is also a cash incentive for the football teams with the winners pocketing $300, the runners-up $200 and the third $100, with the only stipulation being there must be at least four club teams competing in each category.
Admission is free and action starts at 5:30pm with the primary school teams competing in the 4x100 metres semi-finals, followed by the football teams at 6:15pm, with 4x400 metres relays taking place at 7pm. All events are timed finals.
The highlight of the evening will be the 4x100 metres finals, which will involve many of the island’s 2025 Carifta athletes competing for their respective schools at 8pm.
“During this event you will witness the top eight primary, middle and senior schools compete,” Cal Simons, the Bermuda Pacers coach, said. “If you like track and field you don’t want to miss this great spectator event.”
Warwick Academy, Whitney Institute and Berkeley Institute are the defending primary school, middle school and senior school champions respectively.
