Paget Lions reached the semi-finals of the First Division Shield, but not before Devonshire Colts gave them a second-half scare at Bernard Park yesterday.

Paget were coasting at 3-0 before goals in the 57th and 74th minutes got Colts back in the game.

Dion Stovell then sealed the 4-2 win for the First Division leaders with his second goal in the 87th minute.

Travis Wilkinson gave Paget the lead in the 25th minute before Stovell made it 2-0 four minutes later.

And when DeMarlo Curtis capitalised on an error in the Colts defence from a goal kick in the 53rd minute to make it 3-0, Paget were cruising into the semi-final.

Two Colts goals kept their hopes alive, first when captain Vernell Lambe headed home an inswinging Jomei Bean-Lindo free kick from the right side of the penalty area.

Eli Smith cut the Paget lead in half 17 minutes later when he was fouled inside the box and stepped up to convert the spot kick.

Stovell restored Paget’s two-goal lead when he raced into the Colts box before slipping the ball past goalkeeper William White. White denied Stovell a hat-trick in the final minute when the Paget striker raced towards goal from the halfway line and allowed the ball to roll away from him just inside the penalty area before White smothered the loose ball.

Holders BAA made certain of a spot in the last four with a 5-0 win over Ireland Rangers at Goose Gosling Field. Tyrell Burgess scored twice while other goals came from Morrecko Iris, Marcus Brandman and an own goal from Mickey Simmons.

Struggling Wolves pulled off an upset when they beat last year’s finalists, St George’s, 2-1 after extra time at Devonshire Rec. Wolves, third from bottom in the First Division, went ahead through Lamelle Paynter in the first half before St George’s equalised through Kodi Coddington. Vince Minors Jr scored the winner.

Southampton Rangers beat Somerset Eagles 2-1 in the other match.

The draw for the Friendship Trophy and Shield semi-finals will be held today at 12.15pm.
