Nick Pilgrim competes in Americas Triathlon Championships
Nick Pilgrim is targeting a well-constructed race when he takes part in the men’s elite under-23 at the Americas Triathlon Championships, in Calima, Colombia, on Saturday (12.30 Bermuda time).
The Bermudian is one of 39 competitors in what is his first international event of the year. In his last continental competition, the Americas Triathlon Cup Magog, in Canada last July, Pilgrim finished 42nd.
“I want to finish as high as possible,” the 22-year-old told The Royal Gazette.
“A place on the podium would be a bit of a stretch, so a top 10 would be amazing.”
The Bath University student has been preparing for the race on Saturday by competing in the British British Triathlon Super Series.
“I've had a good winter of consistent training and I’ve done some smaller races in the UK,” he said.
“I’ve done some of the Super Series races. I had some solid results there and I’m looking to carry on with that momentum with a decent display.
“We have the under-23 and the elite in the same race, hopefully, I do well in the under-23 race. This is one of the big races for the season, and quite a good one to try and get some points to try get into other races down the line.”
