The Ministry of Finance is relaunching its Trainee Management Accountant Programme in September.

The three-year rotational training initiative is designed to support recent graduates holding a bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) seeking a professional accounting designation.

This includes the Certified Public Accountant qualification in the US or Canada or the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants qualification. Participants gain meaningful, hands-on experience across multiple government departments under the guidance of the Accountant General. At the end of the programme, they will be qualified accountants positioned to be considered for full-time employment in the Public Service.

“The programme reflects Government’s commitment to investing in Bermudian talent and strengthening the financial capabilities of the public service,” said Cherie Whitter, the head of the Public Service.

Participants will rotate through various functional areas, acquiring core competencies in financial reporting, budgeting, auditing, internal controls and tax compliance, all while progressing towards full registration with CPA Bermuda.

Speaking on the relaunch, Dionne Morrison-Shakir, the Accountant General, added: “This programme is not just about developing accountants; it’s about nurturing future leaders in financial governance. We are equipping these trainees with the technical expertise, professional values and real-world experience they need to thrive in the public sector.”

Besides technical training, the programme also supports academic progress by providing dedicated study time and allowances for exams, vacation and professional development.
