Nirobi Smith-Mills runs PB to win big race in England
Nirobi Smith-Mills took more than a second off his best time when winning the 800 metres C race at the British Milers Club Watford Grand Prix on Saturday.
Smith Mills, who is in England studying at Nottingham Trent University, clocked 1 min 48.39 sec to take 1.09 sec off his previous best time as he crossed the line in front a second clear of his nearest rival Jai Sispal.
The Bermudian, who will be representing the island at the Junior Pan American Games in Paraguay next month, was delighted with his winning effort.
“It was really good,” Smith-Mills said. “My coach Kyle [Bennett] essentially told me to slot into second or third and from there to get to 200 metres and then give whatever I had left so the plan worked today.
It’s a busy period for Smith Mills, who is also a talented cricketer and he laid out his plans for the next few weeks.
“I have the English Championships coming up at the end of the month and then I’m going to get geared up for the under-23 Pan American Games.”
