Group donates $25,000 to cancer charity
A reinsurance company has donated $25,000 in memory of Sinclair Woolridge, the late husband of Bermuda Cancer and Health Centre’s former chief executive Lynne Woolridge.
The donation, made to coincide with the one-year anniversary of Mr Woolridge’s death, was presented by Trebuchet Group Holdings Ltd to the charity to assist its Equal Access Fund.
The fund offers coverage for those looking for cancer detection and treatment, as well as prevention options.
Mr Woolridge was an associate of Trebuchet.
Ms Woolridge said: “It’s hard to believe Sinclair’s been gone a year and I am comforted that he’s still fondly remembered.
“I am certain the centre is deeply appreciative of this kind and meaningful gesture in his memory.”
Last year, the BCHC subsidised the cost of services to 2,084 people at a price tag of more than $1.8 million.
The Equal Access Fund’s cash, according to the BCHC, comes from donations from individuals and businesses.
Chris Fosker, the chief executive and medical director of the BCHC, said: “At a time when someone needs our services, they should be fully focused on their mental and physical wellbeing, not worried about whether they can afford an investigation that could detect cancer early, or the radiation therapy that could save their life.
“This gift in Sinclair’s memory will directly help people in our community at moments when care cannot wait.”
Brad Huntington, Pauline Richards and John Williams, the directors of Trebuchet, said in a joint statement: “We recognise the essential role of the BCHC in providing access to vital care to help save lives and are honoured to contribute to this important mission in memory of our friend and former colleague Sinclair Woolridge.
“It is our hope that this donation will continue to provide essential support to those in our community who need it most.”
