Adriana Penruddocke is experiencing a great sense of achievement after making a considerable surge in the ILCA 6 world rankings this year.

Penruddocke, who represented Bermuda at the Olympic Games in Paris in 2024, has jumped 31 places from 67th to 36th in the latest world rankings to become the highest-ranked Bermuda sailor in recent years.

“The world sailing rankings have been updated as the 2025 season has wrapped up and I have ended up in 36th,” Penruddocke told The Royal Gazette.

“I was 100th when I first started in the 2024 cycle and have moved up since, so I am proud of this progress and looking forward to more.

“From what I have seen I am the highest-ranked Bermuda sailor in the past few years and I find the entire process of representing Bermuda on the Olympic circuit very inspiring.”

The 25-year-old attributes her steady ascent to the hard work she has invested, which has translated to improvements made on the race course.

“I think it comes down to consistency and working hard to get my downwind speed to a good level,” Penruddocke said.

“My coach and I try not to set too many results-based goals, trusting that if I develop correctly then the results will come.”

While inspired to have climbed higher in the world pecking order, Penruddocke is determined not to rest on her laurels.

“I’m proud of the climb but hungry for more development during the winter before the season starts back up again early next year.”

As well as making her Olympic debut last year, Penruddocke also represented Bermuda at the ILCA World Championships in Qingdao, China,in May.

Sebastian Kempe (41st) has emerged as Bermuda’s highest-ranked sailor in the ILCA 7 division ahead of compatriots Campbell Patton (81st) and Benn Smith (504th).

Kempe, who also competed at this year’s ILCA World Championships, is more focused on improving his skills on the water than anything else.

“I am not too focused on the world rankings,” he said.

“I am just focused on getting better everyday but 41st overall is not too shabby for now.”

The former youth world champion did the island proud at this summer’s Junior Pan American Games in Paraguay, where he claimed the silver medal in the ILCA 7 fleet.
