Strategic investments spur leap in student numbers at college
Bermuda College has seen the sharpest rise in student enrolment numbers since the onset of Covid-19, it said today.
Enrolment this autumn reached 592 students representing a 5 per cent rise over the previous year and highest since the start of the pandemic, according to the college’s fall 2025 report.
A 10 per cent increase in full-time equivalent students was recorded, with a total of 534, reflecting “high student engagement and commitment” across full and part-time study tracks.
David Sam, the president of Bermuda College, said that its strategic investments in advising, course delivery and partnerships with overseas institutions were continuing to pay off.
“This increase in enrolment is deeply encouraging,” he said.
“It reflects the confidence students are placing in us as a destination for academic excellence, practical skills training and meaningful career pathways.
“I’m particularly pleased to see strength across both our academic and technical divisions, showing that students are choosing what works best for their future.”
Bermuda College has more than 40 articulation agreements with universities in the US, Britain, Canada and the Caribbean, streamlining the process for students to transfer and complete bachelor’s or graduate degrees.
The college has also successfully earned accreditations from world-recognised institutions such as the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing and the American Culinary Federation.
Dr Sam added: “We’ve made significant gains but our work is not done.
“The challenge now is to continue to grow, to make Bermuda College even more accessible, relevant and attractive to students of all ages and backgrounds.”
• A 5 per cent increase in student headcount to 592
• Full-time students now make up 53 per cent of enrolment
• Applied technical education grew by 31 per cent, the strongest of all divisions
• Retention rate returned to a high of 71 per cent, matching the 2016 peak
• Apace programme participation jumped 18 per cent from the autumn of 2024
He said: “Our goal remains to be Bermuda’s premier gateway to higher education. These numbers show we are on the right track.”
Nasir Wade, the chairman of the college’s board of governors, said: “This latest enrolment increase reaffirms our belief in the strategic direction of Bermuda College.
“It speaks volumes about the leadership of Dr Sam and the hard work of faculty and staff across the institution.
“The board is proud of the strides being made and remains committed to supporting initiatives that foster student success and national development.”
