The Department of Statistics is hosting a series of events and promotional activities until October 20, highlighting the vital role of statistics in national development and supporting the upcoming 2026 Population and Housing Census.

The move is in celebration of Caribbean Statistics Day, celebrated annually on October 15, and World Statistics Day (October 20) which is celebrated every five years.

To mark the day on Monday, department staff will be at the Bermuda College Library engaging with students and promoting the importance of statistics and the census, as others are able to follow @Bermudastats to like, share, or comment to win prizes.

There will also be displays at the Bermuda National Library and the department office.

As Bermuda prepares for the census, the department will feature a range of interactive and educational activities.

These include radio appearances to promote statistics and the census, together with a social media campaign, featuring posts that celebrate Caribbean Statistics Day and World Statistics Day.

Jason Hayward, the Minister of Economy and Labour, commented: “Statistics are the foundation of good governance, sound policy, and effective decision-making. As Bermuda prepares for the 2026 Census of Population and Housing, we are reminded that every data point represents a person, a family and a community.

“The information we collect helps the Government and partners fill the gap, ensuring our decisions are guided by accurate, reliable, and timely data.”
