Tales told in tribute to 100-year-old
A celebration was held over the weekend for a man who marked his 100th birthday last week.
Family and friends shared stories about Kenneth Simmons, who was born on November 8, 1925.
David Burt visited the centenarian at his Mount Hill home to offer congratulations.
The Premier presented Mr Simmons with a gift on behalf of the Government and people of Bermuda.
Mr Simmons celebrated his special day with his children Sandra Simons, Connie Hill and Wendle Simmons, along with his grandchildren, great-grandchildren and other family members.
The Government said: “His late son, Kenneth Simmons Jr, was fondly remembered during the celebrations.
“Later that evening, more than 75 guests gathered at the police club for a celebration of Mr Simmons’s life, where stories and memories were shared among generations.”
Mr Burt added: “Reaching 100 years is a special achievement and Bermuda is proud to recognise Mr Simmons among our centenarians.”
The Government said that Mr Simmons’s notable achievements included helping to establish the two-way radio system for Bermuda’s taxi operators.
It added that he also worked with others to bring the Radio Shack franchise to Bermuda.
Mr Simmons remained involved with the store until the age of 82.
He is a grandfather to five and great-grandfather to nine.
The Government added: “Mr Simmons’s life tells the story of a man who worked hard, built opportunity through innovation and contributed to the growth of his community.”
