Victorian-style doll house to be auctioned off for family charity
A pop-up shop has opened its doors in time for Christmas with a special charitable focus on supporting Bermuda families.
Curiouser & Cozy, temporarily located at 61 Front Street, has a handcrafted, fully furnished Victorian-style doll house that will be auctioned off to raise money for Family Centre.
The heirloom belongs to Julia Pitt, host of the pop-up, who said she wanted to give back to the community.
The miniature home is valued at approximately $4,800 and is a reminder that “home is built through care, comfort and the small things that matter the most”.
All proceeds from the auction will go to Family Centre in support of its clients during the holiday season.
Ms Pitt said: “Curiouser & Cozy was created around the love of home, family and celebrating the spirit of Christmas.
“Partnering with Family Centre felt like a natural extension of that and auctioning the miniature house offers a meaningful way to bring that idea to life.”
Sandy De Silva, the executive director of Family Centre, expressed her gratitude for the donation.
She said: “At a time of year when families across Bermuda gather to celebrate togetherness, this initiative helps ensure the children, teens and families we serve feel supported and cared for during the special holiday season.
“Proceeds from this special auction will help strengthen families and bring hope and Christmas joy to children, teens and their families.”
Family Centre, a registered charity, provides free mental health counselling services for children and teens aged from 4 to 18 and their families.
It also offers community outreach programmes Beyond Rugby, Beyond Yoga and Youth Leadership Academy, as well as advocacy schemes.
Bidding for the doll house opens today at 6pm and closes at midday on December 31. Members of the public can view the item at the pop-up shop and can place bids and make donations online at airauctioneer.com/curiouser-cozy/the-little-house-that-holds-big-hearts.
Surrounding the auction is an immersive Christmas shop inspired by nostalgia and craftsmanship, which features antiques, heirloom decor, miniature treasures and festive objects.
The shop also comes with a festive photo booth.
Organisers encouraged the public to “slow down and rediscover the magic of the season” by visiting ahead of Christmas.
The shop is on the first floor of the Front Street building and open from Monday to Saturday from midday to 6pm and on Sunday from midday to 5pm.
