Manders stars as Rest of the World reach US Legends final
The USA Legends Over 60 International Quad Series has brought out the very best in Bermudian Andre Manders who has played an integral role in securing the Rest of the World’s spot in today’s final in Los Angeles.
The former Western Stars and Somerset Cup Match player produced another superb all-round display with bat and ball in his team’s final group match against USA Legends- Hawks, which ended in a narrow six-run defeat at Severn Cricket Field on Thursday.
Manders was handed the new ball for the first time of the tournament and was more than equal to the task on the way to superb figures of four for 24 from nine unchanged overs as USA Legends-Hawks were dismissed for 202 in 40.1 overs after electing to bat.
He then stroked 45 from 56 balls, which included four boundaries, batting at No 5 as the Rest of the World replied with 196 for six in their allotted 45 overs to come up just short in their chase.
Manders’ outstanding all-round prowess earned him man of the match plaudits for his team for the second straight match and more importantly helped them secure a spot in the final against group winners Canada having pipped USA Legends-Eagles for second on net run rate.
He also produced a man of the match display in the Rest of the World’s 25-run loss to Canada during the group stage after claiming two for 42 and stroking a maiden century (53) at the tournament.
