Quinton Sherlock and Dwayne Pearman shared the spotlight between them after finishing tied for first in the second round of the Moongate Tour at Five Forts Golf Club yesterday.

The professional pair both came in at one-under to finish a shot clear of the rest of the field in the 18-hole strokeplay event.

Sherlock held the clubhouse lead until Pearman came along and birdied the last hole to join him at the summit.

Fellow professionals Kenny Leseur and Adam Perry were within striking distance of the leaders at even par with two and three holes to play, but were unable to reel them in.

Sherlock is happy to get a first win of the season under his belt and also reap reward for the work he has been putting into his game lately.

“It’s always good and satisfying to get a win and I am happy with my round,” he told The Royal Gazette.

“I didn’t necessarily play my best, had a couple of three-putts out there. But it’s always good when you may not feel that you’ve had your absolute best round but still able to place.

“I am just grateful for the opportunity to play in the Moongate Tour and just happy that some of the work and some of the training I have been putting in is bearing fruits in my results.

“I do spend a little bit of time down there at Five Forts, although I’ve travelled.

“I enjoy playing the course, it’s always in some good condition and the greens always roll true, so I know what I need to work on to continue to be able to bring in some good scores.”

Pearman, who endured a roller coaster round, was equally as delighted to pick up a first win of the season.

“It feels good and overall it was good day,” he said.

“I was pleased with my ball striking and have been putting better.

“The golf course was in good shape and it was nice to see my friend Steven Lambert have a good day out there as we were paired together.”

Defending Moongate Tour champion Leseur, Perry and fellow professional Josh Hines finished tied for third at even par to round off the podium finishers.

Jamie MacMillan topped the amateur field at one-over, Spencer Wideman was second at four-over and Brent Giannone third another shot back.
