Agenda laid out for upcoming royal visit
King Charles III will formally open a new coastguard station in St David’s, tour Dockyard and meet local athletes and artisans during his whirlwind visit to the island.
Government House this afternoon announced several planned stops for the royal visit next week as the King travels across Bermuda on Friday and Saturday.
A Government House spokeswoman said: “His Majesty’s visit to Bermuda will celebrate the many contributions the people of Bermuda make in their communities, within the wider British family and beyond, and will be His Majesty’s first visit to a British Overseas Territory as sovereign.
“It is also the first visit by a reigning King to Bermuda.
“The visit will also give His Majesty an opportunity to connect with the younger generation, seeing how their creativity and commitment is helping to tackle both local and global issues.”
On Friday morning, the King will be received in King’s Square, St George, by the Royal Bermuda Regiment and dignitaries before visiting St Peter’s Church.
He will then visit the Bermuda Aquarium, Museum and Zoo and Trunk Island to learn more about local wildlife and conservation efforts while celebrating BAMZ’s 100th anniversary.
On Friday afternoon, the King will visit City Hall in Hamilton, where he will meet dignitaries and local artists before moving on to Albouy’s Point to travel on to Dockyard, where he will be greeted by Gombeys at the National Museum of Bermuda and tour the Queen’s Exhibition Hall.
While in Dockyard, he will also meet Commonwealth athletes in advance of this summer’s Glasgow Commonwealth Games and members of various youth organisations.
On Saturday morning, the King will travel to St David’s, where he will formally open the Great Bay coastguard station before venturing to Cooper’s Island, where he will learn about a new telescope project and how it will contribute to the mitigation of space debris.
