One-hour Belco outage hits 11,000 around island

Electricity unexpectedly went offline for roughly 11,000 Belco customers at about 5pm today, after what was described as a “load shed” at the power plant.

Wayne Caines, the president of the company, said: “Power was restored within approximately 20 minutes to the majority of customers.

“The remaining 800 customers in St George's were restored shortly after, with all customers back online within an hour.”

Belco thanked customers for their patience.
