Bermuda will have two sets of siblings competing in the pool at the Commonwealth Games next month.

Swimmers Elijah and Elan Daley became the latest brother and sister to secure the qualification standard at the June Performance Meet in Canada at the weekend, with the two joining Emma and Jack Harvey at the event in Glasgow, Scotland.

Elijah finished second with a time of 2min 6.68sec in the 200 metres individual medley, inside the qualifying standard of 2:06.89.

The younger of the Daley siblings also broke the national record, which stood at 2:07.25 and was set by Stephen Fahy at the 1999 Pan American Games in Winnipeg and Sam Williamson at the Edinburgh International Swim Meet in 2024.

Elijah also finished second in the 200 butterfly final in 2:03.70, just 0.63 seconds off his own national record of 2:03.07, which was set in 2024 at the Central American and Caribbean Games in Mexico.

In the 100 butterfly final, he finished third in 55.48, just 0.16 seconds off his national record of 55.32, set in 2024 at the Ontario Championships.

Elan Daley won the 50 metres freestyle final in 26.05, lower than the 26.28 required to qualify for the Commonwealth Games. She recorded 56.89 in the 100 metres freestyle, also a time good enough for her to represent the island in Glasgow

More than one pair of siblings competing at the Commonwealth Games is a regular occurrence among bigger nations. Boxers Aidan and Michaela Walsh and identical judoka twins Sarah and Rachell Hawkes competed for Northern Ireland at the 2022 Birmingham Games, with Australia having three sets of siblings on its team.

Nathan and Josh Katz represented the country in judo, Madison and Teagan Levi played an instrumental role in the Australian women’s rugby sevens team claiming gold, while Angela and Jack Yu competed in badminton.

This year’s edition will be even more unique with the Schlosshan sisters, Ciara and Leah, representing different countries. Ciara will be part of Team Scotland, while younger sibling Leah is a member of Team England for the Games, which take place from July 23 to August 2.
