Caitlyn Bobb finishes third in Jerome Classic
Caitlyn Bobb warmed up for the Commonwealth Games by clocking 53.56sec to finish third in the women’s 400 metres premium at the Jerome Classic in Burnaby, British Columbia, on Tuesday night.
Running in lane six against five competitors at Swangard Stadium, Bobb was 1.21 behind race winner, Grace Konrad, from Canada. Another Canadian, Ella Clayton, was second in 52.80.
The Bermudian beat highly experienced American Brianna Green, as well as the Canadian teenage duo of Chloe Agbebaku and Tanaz Aulakh-Kahlon.
“I very satisfied with my time,” Bobb told The Royal Gazette.
“The overall season has been very challenging, navigating creating my own structure that I had in the NCAA has been very difficult. My times this season are not a reflection of me, but the journey and ups and downs of the season.
“With that being said, praise be to God, I’m finding my footing, navigating the season better and I’m in an overall better mental state. I’m not mad this is how the season is going because with hardship, does come ease.
“This season has been filled with many lessons so this race is a stepping stone in the right direction. I’m a lot more confident, hopeful and optimistic about the Commonwealth Games.”
It was the 23-year-old’s second appearance at the Canadian event after she won the women’s 400 A final in 52.29 a year ago.
Bobb is part of the 13 athletes that will be representing the island at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland, from 23 July to 2 August. The Junior Pan American Games silver medal-winner is one of the seven track and field stars that will be flying the Bermudian flag at the competition.
