A musical version of Romeo & Juliet will debut at a new outdoor amphitheatre in Warwick this month.

The show, produced by Bermudian-based Devil’s Isle Shakespeare Company, is the first event to take place at the amphitheatre at Riddell’s Bay Nature Reserve and will include a special opening night celebration on August 29.

A statement said the production features original music and a cast of Bermudian and American performers who will “create a unique experience for locals, visitors and schoolchildren”.

Music for the show was written by Séamus Miller, Devil’s Isle founder and artistic director, with resident music director Emily Erickson and Bermudian musician Christina Frith.

The statement said: “This is the third season for Devil’s Isle in Bermuda and their first time performing as the resident company of the newly constructed amphitheatre.”

Plans for the amphitheatre, which features Bermuda stone walls and multiple seating levels, were submitted in 2021 and grass beds were being placed at the site this year as the project neared completion.

Devil’s Isle debuted its first production, a musical adaptation of the Tempest, in 2024 and remade the show with more Bermudians involved last year.

Devil’s Isle will perform additional shows, which will be free of charge for everyone under the age of 18, at the amphitheatre on August 28 and September 1, 2, 4, 11 and 12.

Opening night festivities will begin with drinks and assorted food stations at 6pm and include dessert at intermission.

This event has a rain date of September 5 and tickets are $275 for general admission and $1,000 for a date night table, the latter of which includes two tickets. Tickets can be purchased at bdatix.bm.

Tickets for all other performances are $45 general admission, $100 front row and free for everyone under 18 and are available at zeffy.com.
