Police issue close to 120 traffic tickets
Almost 120 tickets — mostly for speeding — were issued to motorists as police and transport officers united to make the island’s roads safer yesterday.
On its Facebook page, the Bermuda Police Service said the joint effort with the Transport Control Department resulted in 50 tickets for speeding.
Another 31 were for failing to wear a seatbelt and 15 were for using a mobile phone while driving.
The BPS said five tickets were issued to motorists for driving without a licence, seven were for having no third-party insurance and eight were for having no vehicle licence.
Two tickets were issued for excessive window tint
“We continue to see regular patterns of disregard for traffic laws among the motoring public,” the BPS added.
They said that officers remain committed to carrying out their mission of promoting public safety on the island’s roads.
Motorists were urged to slow down, buckle up, avoid using phones while behind the wheel and drive responsibly.
It was announced last week, soon after the thirteenth road fatality of 2026 was confirmed, that extra officers would be drafted in on overtime to target traffic offences, particularly those most likely to lead to death and serious injury.
Darrin Simons, the Commissioner of Police, said then that those include speeding, impaired driving, dangerous and careless driving, mobile phone use and unsafe overtaking.
Last weekend at least 100 tickets were issued by police in little more than 24 hours during enforcement efforts.
On Monday close to 70 tickets were issued as the police continued road safety and enforcement efforts across the island.
