Kovin Moodley is going through mixed emotions after vacating his role as Bermuda hockey coach this month.

Moodley was in charge of Bermuda teams from 2022. His final assignment came at the Central American and Caribbean Games in Dominican Republic, where he guided the women’s side to an eighth-place finish.

“It’s been a privilege to lead the national teams,” Moodley said.

“There are definitely mixed emotions leaving, but I’m proud of what the players and staff achieved over the last four years.

“It’s been a privilege to work in Bermuda. Building momentum and culture is always challenging, but it also makes the success very rewarding.”

Moodley ranks qualifying for the 2023 and 2026 CAC Games, together with getting the men’s team back to international action as some of his best accomplishments.

“My biggest achievement was winning the CAC qualifiers in April 2022,” he said.

“Qualifying for two CAC games in 2023 and 2026 was special. I also believe when the men played in 2022, it was their first time in 29 years of no International competition.”

As he departs his position, the 35-year-old hopes he leaves the national teams in a strong position.

“I hope I have left the team in a better place,” Moodley said.

“That may need some time to reveal. The structures put in place may grow and develop over time even while I am away and I wish the programme the best for the next chapter.”

While the Bermuda Hockey Federation has not yet announced Moodley’s replacement, a post on the national team social-media platform paid tribute to the departing coach.

“Kovin, what an incredible four years with our national programme,” the statement read.

“Four years filled with unforgettable memories, valuable lessons, challenges, growth and so many special moments.

“Your dedication, passion and commitment have left a lasting impact and we’re truly grateful for everything you’ve given to Bermuda hockey.”
