Woman accused of threatening magistrate
A woman appeared in court yesterday charged with threatening a judge and assaulting two police officers.
Coreen Scott, 32, from Paget, who denied all charges, was warned on the first day of her trial for making comments during proceedings, prompting acting magistrate Timothy Marshall to warn the accused about her behaviour in court.
Witness Detective Sergeant Kendy Swainson told the court how she reviewed CCTV footage from Ice Queen, where some of the offences were alleged to have taken place.
The footage played in court showed Ms Scott shouting and swearing inside the eatery and also showed Maxanne Anderson, the senior magistrate, and her husband, Wayne Caines, in the venue at the same time.
Ms Scott faces five charges from two different dates.
The first is that she is alleged to have threatened “to do injury or cause detriment to the senior magistrate Mrs Maxanne Anderson on account of something done by her as the holder of a judicial office”.
The offence is alleged to have taken place on August 20 last year.
On the same date, Ms Scott is accused of using insulting or offensive words in a public place, Ice Queen, and its environs in Paget.
The other three charges faced by Ms Scott are from events alleged to have taken place on August 27 last year.
She is accused of violently resisting Detective Sergeant Kendy Swainson while being arrested at a property in Paget.
Ms Scott was also charged with wilfully obstructing Detective Constable Nidra McKenzie-Simons at a property in Paget while the officer was acting in the execution of her duty, by kicking off a body-worn camera.
The fifth charge is that she assaulted Constable McKenzie-Simons by scratching her while the officer was carrying out her duties.
The trial continues on October 13.
