Weather causes cruise ship to divert from Bermuda to Canada
A cruise ship is avoiding docking in Bermuda tomorrow because of reports of stormy weather.
The Vision of the Seas was expected to arrive at Dockyard but has now rerouted to Saint John, New Brunswick in Canada for an overnight call.
However, passengers were informed they are not allowed to disembark and ship owners Royal Caribbean are reported to be offering compensation for the switch in venues.
The news was reported via the online publication Cruise Hive.
The five-night cruise was scheduled to depart Baltimore, Maryland, on October 17 with an overnight visit to Bermuda’s Royal Naval Dockyard from October 19 to October 20.
Cruise Hive reported that passengers were notified late on October 16 that the ship would instead visit Saint John, New Brunswick.
Royal Caribbean was quoted citing adverse weather and concerns about being able to provide a safe and comfortable journey.
The revised itinerary lists an arrival in Saint John at 6.30pm on October 19 and departure at 6.30am on October 20.
“Guests will not be able to disembark while in port,” a Royal Caribbean notification stated, because of poor offshore weather, including strong winds.
Royal Caribbean notified guests of the last-minute change late on Friday, the day before embarkation for the five-night sailing.
