Bermuda to face Mexico and Panama

Bermuda celebrate beating the Dominican Republic

Bermuda have been drawn against Mexico and Panama in group B of League A in the Concacaf Nations League.

The draw for the group phase of the inaugural competition was made at The Chelsea Hotel in Las Vegas last night and attended by Mark Wade, the Bermuda Football Association president, and David Sabir, the BFA general secretary.

Wade said: “There were no easy drawings. We look forward to starting our Nations League participation in earnest in September.”

Mexico and Panama both qualified for the World Cup in Russia last year, with Mexico reaching the Round of 16 while Panama were eliminated at the group stage. Panama held Brazil to a 1-1 draw in Portugal last week.

The group phase matches will be played during three Fifa international windows: September 6 to 11, October 7 to 15 and November 11-19. Bermuda will face each opponent twice, home and away.

League A is split into four pools of three with the winner of each group advancing to the semi-finals. The bottom team in each pool will be relegated to League B.

Group A of League A includes the United States, Canada and Cuba, group C features Honduras, Trinidad and Tobago and Martinique, while group D is made up of Costa Rica, Haiti and Curaçao.

Bermuda qualified for League A after finishing fifth in the qualifying standings with three victories and a defeat.
