Drink-driver falls off his bike twice

A drink-driver who fell off his motorcycle twice as he tried to get on it has been banned from the road.

At Magistrates’ Court yesterday, João Amaral Rebelo, 35, pleaded guilty to having care and control of a motorcycle while impaired.

The court heard that officers watching CCTV footage from Front Street in the early hours saw the Pembroke man get on his bike and fall off twice.

Rebelo was on his motorcycle with the key in the ignition when police arrived and arrested him.

The incident happened at 3am on December 7.

In a separate drink-driving case in the city, Lolita Orgill, 43, admitted driving while impaired on December 22.

Prosecutors said that officers on Front Street saw Orgill try to drive her car into Number 5 car park through the exit just after 2am.

The court heard Orgill had to jam on her brakes when another driver attempted to leave the car park.

She told officers she had drunk two glasses of wine.

Senior magistrate Juan Wolffe fined Rebelo and Orgill $1,000 each and also banned them from driving for 18 months.
