Students given Duke of Edinburgh awards
Edinburgh Awards Scheme.
In a special presentation at Government House, Governor Lord Waddington also recognised 42 other young adults and students who achieved silver and bronze awards.
Top achievers were: Andrew Barber of Northlands Secondary School. He is a junior instructor with the Bermuda Sea Cadets, a participant with cadets from other countries in a sea training voyage, a musician and footballer; Ranger Guide Joanne Bielby, who completed a gold award expedition to Snowdonia in Wales. She is a candystriper and plays the viola and squash; Ranger Guide Raquel Emery who also went to Snowdonia for her award expedition.
She plays tennis, studied needlework and is a candystriper; Rachel Lema of Northlands Secondary who participated as an "able-bodied companion'' aboard the Lord Nelson sail training ship for the physically handicapped. She studies Portuguese, helps at a nursery school and plays volleyball and netball; Ranger Guide Sara Mancell who works as a candystriper, plays the flute, travelled to Snowdonia with Outward Bound. She also achieved Bermuda national standards in swimming; Northlands Secondary School's Brian Robinson, whose gold award expedition saw him travel to the Lake District in England with his school group. He also teaches tennis; and Claudia Seymour, who plays piano as well as percussion for the Bermuda Philharmonic Orchestra. She is an active member of the Warwick Academy Leo Club and a national title holder in swimming. She also travelled to Snowdonia with Outward Bound.
