Argus sponsors summer camp
Places in the BCB Summer Cricket Camp for boys and girls aged seven to 13 are now being offered at a subsidised rate of $120 per week and $50 a week for after-camp care following generous support from sponsors Argus.
The camp (July 3-August 2) is based at Warwick Academy and runs from 7.45am to 3pm with after-camp care until 5.30. Camp director is Kellie Smith, while the cricket coaches include Level 1 cricket coaches Mishael Paynter and national team players Jordan Smith and Tre Manders, as well as Kiante Lightbourne, a qualified netball coach and swimming instructor who currently plays netball with Warwickshire County in the UK.
The BCB stressed the main purpose of the Summer camp is to teach the skills of cricket while enriching the lives of all of Bermuda’s children by keeping them active over the break playing a sport they love. The camp incorporates skill building activities and games to develop the skills they learn in practice.
Each day the camp focuses on a character building skill such as “respect” or “fairness” for example and players are encouraged to incorporate these skills into daily activities.
Alison Hill, CEO of the Argus Group said: “Argus is pleased to be able to increase our support of this outstanding programme for children. The BCB summer camp serves all demographics and provides access to our national sport in a fun and safe context.
“We are especially encouraged that the camp has a strong emphasis on wellness and personal development which are themes close our own mission. We look forward to seeing many happy children at our camp this year.”
Lloyd Fray, president of the BCB, added: “The BCB camps are an important part of our youth development programme which offers cricket coaching in the areas of skill, knowledge, understanding and the spirit of cricket. If anyone would like to sponsor a child to attend the camp, please contact the office on 292 8958 or e-mail info@cricket.bm.”
