Key West hit six to seal eighth win

hat for Key West Rangers, who continue to stand as the lone side in senior soccer with a perfect league record.

Rangers ran their winning streak in Commercial Division `B' to eight games, with a 6-1 trouncing of Valley International at St. John's Field, and continue to appear certainties for promotion to the `A' Division for next season.

Vernal Cann began the carnage with a strike in the 15th minute, and, while Valley equalised a minute later, courtesy of Kevin Isaac, Rangers never blinked.

Wayne Augustus restored Key West to a goal advantage and Ricky Mallory made it 3-1 with a strike just before the interval.

The second half was all the home side, with Mallory netting a second, while substitutes Earl Richardson and Casey Butterfield completed the `six-pack'.

With chief challengers St. George's falling away to arch rivals Somerset Extros, Key West now have a commanding five point advantage at the head of the standings.

Moving into second place were Exiles, who maintained their charge for the second promotion spot with a hard fought, 4-3, come-from-behind win over bottom club Prison Officers.

Exiles prevailed, but not before suffering early shockwaves, as Officers surged to a 2-0 lead behind goals from Denton Leader and Millard Rawlins.

Goals from Shannon Burchall and Treadwell Walker drew the home side back on level terms, and an Ian MacLeod tally allowed them a 3-2 half-time edge.

Mike Smith added much needed insurance moments after the interval, while Rawlins supplied consolation for Officers four minutes from time.

Somerset Extros showed St. George's the gate, hammering the east enders 3-0 at Somerset Cricket Club, as the pair hooked up in another instalment of the east versus west derby.

In other action, Bermuda Pest Control slammed Devonshire Lions 3-1 behind scores from C.Davis, K.Francis and G.Bulman, while Chris Pitcher replied for Devonshire Lions, and Dockyard Falcons drew 0-0 with Wolves Pack.

Robin Hood increased their lead atop the `A' Division to four points, after brushing aside cellar dwellers Devonshire Colts All-Stars 3-0.

With North Village Rams inactive due to the postponement of their fixture against Fire Service, Hood were able to enhance their position at the expense of hapless All-Stars, who will need a miracle to avoid relegation.

Also taking advantage of Rams' inactivity were Lobster Pot, as they leapfrogged the former, moving into second place on the tails of a 2-0 triumph over PHC Raiders.

Pot now have 22 points, compared to 26 for Hood, and 20 for Rams, who have a game in hand.

Another side on the move on Saturday was MR Onions, jumping from fifth to fourth after holding on for 2-1 victory over Tuff Dogs at Shelly Bay Field.

Stephen Ludgate and Nick Briggs gave Onions an early two-goal lead, but Nathan Brown slashed that to one a minute before the break, and this was how the scoreline remained.

The lone remaining fixture witnessed a six-goal thriller between BAA Wanderers and Vasco Mariners, with the pair sharing the spoils.

Thomas Gribbin opened up for Wanderers in the 15th minute, however strikes in quick succession by Michael Bean and Michael Maiato soon after the break gave Mariners a goal edge of their own.

Stuart MacCulluy then levelled matters from the penalty spot in the 60th minute.

Despite having Maiato receive his marching orders, it appeared Bean had pulled off a winner in the 84th minute, but just as Mariners readied to celebrate, up popped Darren Hope with a face-saving score.
