Top of the table clash ends all square

top of Group A, leaving Group B leaders PHC Raiders as the only team in the Commercial League with maximum points.

In the top match on Saturday, Fire and Hood drew 1-1 at Police Field with Derek Thomas scoring for Hood in the 35th minute and Brian Fubler replying with a header from a free kick in the 75th minute.

Fire goalkeeper Alan Wilkinson saved a penalty in the second half which came after a handball by Bo Saggar who subsequently received a red card, although ultimately his dismissal didn't cost the team.

MR Onions and Lobster Pot both missed an opportunity to close the gap as BAA Wanderers and North Village Rams inflicted defeats to move ahead of them in the standings.

Rams rose from fifth to third after edging Onions 3-2 while defending champions Wanderers moved into fourth place after a 2-0 win over Pot.

Darren Hope opened the scoring for Wanderers in the eighth minute before an own goal by John McEwing doubled their lead four minutes before the interval.

Onions blew a 2-0 lead against Rams as they crashed to their second defeat of the season. Andrew Robinson gave them the lead in the 22nd minute before David Outtrim made it 2-0 in the 52nd minute.

The Rams fightback began in the 58th minute when Ross Lambe pulled one back and Bray Saltus tied it up with the second in the 65th minute. Sherwin Hollis netted the winner two minutes from the end.

In the bottom of the table clash, Mariners picked up their first win when they beat last-placed Prison Officers 4-1. Richard Correia and Frank Massaflori got Mariners off to a good start with goals in the 21st and 24th minutes before Carlos Lopes added to the tally with a goal in the 40th minute. There was also an own goal by Prison Officers who have now conceded 22 in four games.

PHC Raiders are bouncing right back after being relegated last season. They made it four wins on the trot in Group B with an 8-2 thrashing of Wolves Pack.

COMMERCIAL SOCCER From Page 23 Keith Bell scored a first half hat-trick and further strikes from Des Minors and Brian Anderson gave the Raiders a comfortable 6-0 lead at the break. Vance Campbell and Youssef Bousetta completed the scoring in the second half.

The three-way tie for second place was broken when Exiles and St. George's All-Stars both lost, leaving Belco alone on 10 points, two behind Raiders.

Belco beat Exiles 5-4 as Marlon Lindsay netted a hat-trick and Dennis Pimental and Michael Holdipp got the others. Craig Crichlow (2), Craig Tyrell and Edwin Cannonier replied for Exiles.

Somerset Extros picked up their second win and handed St. George's their first loss with a 4-2 win at Somerset. Dwaine Richardson opened the scoring for Extros before Charles Wade equalised two minutes later.

Extros scored three unanswered goals through Donnie Simmons in the 43rd and Everett Wellman in the 52nd and 60th minutes before Cal Rayner pulled another one back for St. George's in the 88th.

Bermuda Pest Control continued their losing ways, going down 5-1 to Devonshire All-Stars to remain on the bottom of the table. Michael Looby and Leslie Mills gave the All-Stars a 2-0 lead in the first five minutes before second half goals by Clarke Trott, James Tweed and Larry Benjamin made certain of victory.
