Boulevard hit back with late goals

Boulevard salvaged a point when they scored twice in the space of two minutes late in the second half of this First Division clash at PHC Stadium yesterday -- the last day of the 1996/97 league programme.

From the outset the FA Cup finalists looked to be taking the match more seriously than a Vasco team whose entire season ended yesterday.

But it was the Portuguese club, starting again with regular goalkeeper Timmy Figureido at left back, who scored twice in the first half.

Figureido was actually back in goal by the 13th minute after stand-in Alex DaCosta went off with a leg injury and was replaced by the team's only substitute, Steven Arorash.

Taur Caisey, a former Boulevard player, broke the deadlock with a scrambled goal in the 20th minute and then added a second in the 40th when he completed a good Vasco move by hammering a shot from outside the box into the far corner.

Dwight Warren finally pulled a goal back in the 72nd minute, beating Figureido with a firm shot which the 'keeper touched but could not keep out.

Two minutes later Donovan Livingston was blown down for a handball on the right edge of the penalty area and Dean Boyles scored from the spot.

N.Village 2 S.Rangers 2 An equaliser by Kwame Tucker after 65 minutes at Bernard Park yesterday earned visiting Southampton Rangers a place in the top six and the right to participate in the Martonmere Cup next season.

It wasn't by any means a spectacular season-ending performance by either team, but it was a game that the players seemed to enjoy -- especially with referee Gary Cooke allowing the play to flow without blowing for minor infractions.

Rangers dominated early but it was Village who struck first with Nakia Smith scoring after 31 minutes when he combined with Kevin Jennings and Larance Durham.

A minute before the interval Herbie Dillas netted the deserved equaliser for Southampton when he scored from close range.

Village goalkeeper Dwayne (Streaker) Adams converted a penalty for a handball offence after 50 minutes to make it 2-1, sending Darrell the wrong way with his precision spot kick.

But Rangers again battled back and got their reward when Ascento Russell created the opening for Tucker to hammer the ball home from 12 yards.

Tucker could have ended it on an even happier note for Southampton but his shot from 15 yards after 84 minutes was brilliantly tipped over by Adams.

St. George's 0 Dandy Town 7 Dandy Town warmed up for next week's Friendship Trophy final with this 7-0 thrashing of relegated St. George's at Wellington Oval.

In a meaningless affair, Town's twin strikers Darron Simons and Carlos Smith proceeded to make target practice of the East Enders, each scoring twice, with Smith notching his in the second and 42nd minutes, while Simons scored his first after eight minutes and followed up with another 15 minutes into the second half.

Further goals came from the likes of Seyoum Tuzo, Lionel Furbert and youngster Shawn Roberts, who produced his first ever goal for the club at senior level.

The win allowed Town to finish third overall in the First Division as they vaulted over North Village and Boulevard.

St. David's 4 PHC 4 No officials showed up for this match at St. David's, leaving PHC coach Jack Castle to referee as these two bottom half of the table teams served up a goal feast.

St. David's had already been relegated while PHC's season was also disappointing, finishing just four points and one place ahead of them as they failed to qualify for the Martonmere Cup next season.
