A foul smell on Front Street has been traced to a blocked sewer.

A spokeswoman for the City of Hamilton said the main blockage had been removed, with “odorous residual grease” due to come out on Sunday.

The odour at the east end of Front Street came from the area of the city’s pumping station.

The spokesman said that grease traps are in place for the five restaurants in the area but some runoff had escaped into the sewerage system and built up over time.
