Police probe three burglariesAn upper level Smith’s apartment was targeted for burglary on Tuesday, with electronics and jewellery stolen.However, a police spokesman said that attempts to enter the lower apartment in the same building were unsuccessful.According to the spokesman, officers responded to a reported burglary at a Pigeon Berry Lane home.“It appears that sometime between 8.30am and 3.15 that day, an unknown culprit gained entry into the upper apartment while it was unoccupied.“The culprit stole a Dell laptop computer, a portable DVD player, a Motorola cellular phone and a quantity of jewellery.“It appears that an unknown culprit attempted to gain entry into the lower apartment but was unsuccessful.”In a separate incident, two cellular phones and loose change were reportedly stolen from a Cedar Hill, Warwick home.It is believed that between 7am and 9pm on Tuesday, someone entered the home while it was unoccupied and took the items.The police spokesman said that inquiries are underway for all three incidents, and reminded the public to make sure their homes are properly secured to help prevent burglaries.Useful Websites: www.bps.bm.Man fined $1,000 for escaping police custodyA man was yesterday fined $1,000 for escaping police custody on New Year’s Day.Rasheed Muhammad, 20, turned himself into the Sandys Police Station on February 1 and appeared in Magistrates’ Court yesterday.He pleaded guilty to the offence. The court heard Muhammad was a pillion passenger on a bike that was stopped for speeding at 1am on January 1.Police asked for his name and address, they then informed him there was a warrant for his arrest.When Muhammad heard this he ran off. Police chased him along the Railway Trail but were unable to find him after he ran into some bushes.Yesterday, he also pleaded guilty to driving without a licence on November 17 and was fined $100. Magistrate Archibald Warner told him to pay the fines immediately.Two homes broken intoTwo homes were burgled in one day, in both cases while the residences were unoccupied.Jewellery was taken from a residence on Fisherman’s Hill in Hamilton Parish between 10am and 3.40pm Monday. A laptop, clothing and personal items were removed from a home on Ord Road, Paget between 10.15am and 2.55pm that same day.Police also reported 38 road accidents for the week of January 24 to 31, ten of which resulted in injuries.A total of 12 people were arrested on suspicion of impaired driving. Nine vehicles were reported stolen over the week. One car was taken and the rest were either auxiliary cycles or motorcycles. The car and two bikes were later recovered.
