Village skipper DeGraff's not taking St David's for granted
North Village skipper Sammy DeGraff is taking nothing for granted in his side's Premier Division clash with lowly St David's tonight.
DeGraff is expecting the Warriors to bring their 'A-game' to Devonshire Rec as they look to put some distance between themselves and the other teams at the bottom of the league.
And with just three points separating Village and the next two clubs, PHC and Dandy Town, who play each other tonight at Somerset Cricket Club, DeGraff knows his side can't afford any slip ups.
"We have had a good start to the season and St. David's is our next game and we just have to get the points and move on," said DeGraff. "They have a few wins under their belt and although they have a few losses as well, they know how to win so if you factor all this into the game it is a testing match for us.
"Most teams usually bring their best game when they play us so I don't think it will be just a walk in the park. For us it is just a matter of trying to progress with our game as a team and look to continue the success we have had so far.
"We don't think we have played at the level we can and this is a game that we need to put our best foot forward and get the win."
Tonight's games at the Rec and in Somerset will have an impact at both ends of the table, especially as PHC have two games in hand on their title rivals.
DeGraff, however, isn't concerning himself with happenings elsewhere, believing that as long as his side play to their full potential they won't have any worries about what is going on behind them.
"We know that the closest teams to us play as well, but we won't worry about that result because we know that as long as we keep winning they won't catch us," he said.
"PHC have a few games in hand and haven't lost or drawn yet, but our focus is on us.
"We are winning games but we aren't playing that well and this is the time to work on a few things while getting results.
"They are a few new guys coming into the team that can give us a boost so we are getting better."
As well as tonight's Premier Division matches, there are also two First Division games taking place. Before Village and St David's clash, Wolves and BAA will face each other at 7 p.m. at Devonshire Rec, while in the West End, PHC and Dandy Town will be preceded by Hamilton Parish's clash with Prospect.
