Would-be entrepreneurs to get a helping hand
People who want to become their own bosses can learn all about Government regulations, banking and telecommunications needs at a seminar this weekend.
The breakfast seminar being put on by the Bermuda Small Business Development Corporation this Saturday.
General manager Neville Grant said the idea for the morning session came about because would-be entrepreneurs may not know where to begin when trying to set up their own business.
To help ease the business-minded on the path to becoming their own boss will be Corporation staff, talking about business planning and how to set up a company followed by information from Government and the private sector.
An entrepreneur who has been in business for about a year will also share her experiences ? and how she wished she had had the information from the seminar when she started out, as there was much she only learned through "trial and error".
Seven different Government departments, including the Tax Commissioner's Office (payroll tax), Social Insurance, Planning, Magistrates' Court (peddler's license), Health Department, the Pension Commission (basics of setting up a private pension) and the Commission for Racial Equality, will give an overview of what a person going into business for themselves needs to do to comply with the law and Government regulations.
In addition, representatives from the banking, insurance and technology sectors will talk about insurance plans, telecommunications for the small business and banking essentials.
Saturday's session, which is to be held at the Fairmont Hamilton Princess, begins at 8.30 a.m. and runs until noon.
Mr. Grant said there were also plans to televise the seminar at a future date, to bring the information reaches a broader audience. Saturday's presentations will also be put into an information package for those seeking help on setting up a business in future.
Spaces for this weekend's seminar can be reserved by calling the Corporation.
