Richmond angered by Nelson’s criticism of the judges

Bermuda Boxing Commission chairman Vic Richmond hit back at Tori Nelson’s scathing criticism of the judges’ ruling in Saturday’s WBC world middleweight championship bout.Following her second draw with local southpaw Teresa Perozzi in nearly four months, the undefeated American boxer implied that the judges were biased towards the home fighter which drew a fierce rebuke from fight commissioner Richmond.“I feel it was extremely disingenuous of and very unsporting of Tori Nelson to make insinuations that one cannot get a fair decision in Bermuda unless you are a Bermudian boxer,” he said. “All officials in last night's fight, the referee and three judges, were from overseas, two from Nelson's country (USA) and two from Canada. It could, therefore, be said that going into the fight Teresa Perozzi was at a 'disadvantage' but she and her camp made no objections or fuss.“Another point of note is that the three judges scoring last night's fight were, as is customary in World Title re-matches, different from the Judges officiating at their October 13th (2012) fight. On both occasions the result was declared as a draw! Such a pity that two great fights have been somewhat soured by Tori Nelson's post fight remarks.”Richmond dismissed claims that Nelson’s camp were the ones that chose the referee and judges."The World Boxing Council (WBC) has sole responsibility for the appointment of the Referee and Judges in their World Championship Title fights,” he said. “Neither the Bermuda Boxing Commission or either of the two boxers had any involvement or influence in the appointment of the officials for Saturday's fight.”During a post fight interview with this newspaper Nelson felt she had won the bout, implying “maybe I have to be a Bermudian citizen to fight another Bermudian in order to get the win here”.
