Beachfest, Soca vs Reggae and the Non-Mariner’s crown Cup Match weekend

After a little venue change last year, Chewstick’s Ninth Annual Beachfest Emancipation Celebration will be back at its usual location of Horseshoe Bay to kick off the Cup Match celebrations on Thursday, July 31.

This will run from 8am until 9pm and as usual, the festivities will centre around local talent and positive vibes.

This year, Beachfest will feature a major international headliner and the culmination of the Beachfest Crown Song Competition, a competition inviting all artists in Bermuda to submit up to two songs for the chance to win a large cash award, a sponsor prize pack and bragging rights for creating the official song of the Summer.

You can also expect football, volleyball, limbo and jouvert, as well as enhancements to the Kids Zone. General entry is free.

If you want the full rock star experience, VIP tickets are also available at a cost of $200 for over-21s.

This includes all day access to the VIP Tent (a secure 40×40 tent in a prime location), ten drink tickets ($70 value), a dedicated private bar, one meal ticket, complimentary hors d’oeuvres, exclusive giveaways, private security and more, allowing you to simply turn up with your towel and swimsuit.

Alternatively, an open-bar pass will be available at a cost of $125 for over-18s, allowing you to leave the coolers at home. Both are available for purchase from www.pTix.bm. For more information, contact 292-2439 or info@chewstick.org, or visit www.BeachfestBermuda.com.

After the cricket is done, Team Soca and Team Reggae will face each other in the other big Cup Match clash.

The Eighth Annual Soca vs Reggae Official Cup Match After-Party will be at Snorkel Park on Friday, August 1, from 8.30pm.

This year will also be a battle of the sexes with the Soca Corner defending their title with the all-girl team of Denise Saucy Wow Belfon, Patrice Roberts and Giselle D’Wassie One.

The all-boy team in the Reggae Corner will be Mr Vegas, Tony Matterhorn and Stone Love.

Regular tickets are $65 in advance from www.BDAtix.bm, more at the door. All inclusive tickets are $150, also available from www.BDAtix.bm, and these include an open bar, priority access, catered food and elevated vantage point.

As you’ll no doubt be aware by now, Bermuda’s favourite raft-up will be taking its usual slot of the Sunday after Cup Match.

The 42nd Annual Non-Mariners Race has been confirmed for Sunday, August 3 at the usual spot of Mangrove Bay/Sandys Boat Club.

Sandys Boat Club will be open from 10am and Non-Activities start with the Non-Colours Raising at 11.53am +87 secs, Non-Penguins Fly Past at 1.08pm + 29 sec, Non-Noodle Race at 1.22pm + 96 sec, Non-Memorial to our Mascot at 2.13pm + 32 sec, Non-Calypso Pipe Band at 2.32pm + 109 sec, Non-Craft Race at 3.29pm + 62 sec, Non-Trophy and Non-Prizegiving at 5.47pm +56 secs, and Non-MC will be Bruce Barritt.

Pirouette your way to the Earl Cameron Theatre at City Hall as Bermuda Civic Ballet presents Etudes, two evenings of ballet and modern dance at 8pm on Friday, August 8 and Saturday, August 9.

The show will star Damien Johnson, the brilliant premier danseur of Ballet Black, with a galaxy of local dancers, and featuring new and exciting choreography.

Tickets are $40 for adults, $30 for Seniors, $20 for students under 18, and are available from www.pTix.bm or the City Hall Box Office between noon and 2pm from August 4.

For the 26th year, little champs aged 3 to 14 will gather at Clearwater Beach, St David’s to swim, bike and run to victory at the Clarien Iron Kids Triathlon and Carnival on Saturday, September 20.

Junior triathletes can win up to $1,000 in scholarship funds and the fun portion of the day includes a carnival with fun castles, face painting, food stalls, light entertainment, a DJ, and more from noon until 5pm.
