More than one gang on the Island had a grudge against Parkside, a police gang expert said yesterday.Their rivals were not limited to members of 42, Detective Sergeant Alex Rawlins said under cross-examination yesterday in Supreme Court.Jay Dill and Devon Hewey are charged with the premeditated murder of 22-year-old Randy Robinson and using a firearm to commit the offence. They deny both charges.Det Sgt Rawlins told the court earlier this week that the 23-year-olds are members of 42 while Mr Robinson was related to a Parkside member.Questioned by defence lawyer Larry Mussenden yesterday, the officer admitted MOB, Jones Village Crew, White Hill and East Side Crew were all Parkside rivals.According to Mr Mussenden, a series of pictures purportedly showing Mr Dill associating with gang members and flashing gang signs were examples of friends having fun.Det Sgt Rawlins agreed with the suggestion that for some people the signs merely show affection for their neighbourhood and that schoolchildren sometimes throw up gang signs as well.Said Mr Mussenden: “It just seems like everyone, particularly young blacks, seems to be doing it.”Det Sgt Rawlins responded: “Those are the people we consider vulnerable.”The police officer acknowledged that Mr Dill had no convictions for gang-related offences but refuted a suggestion that Mr Dill was a “non-participating” member of 42.He’d told the court earlier that Christopher Parris was 42’s leader at the time of the shooting.Mr Mussenden said Det Sgt Rawlins had made a statement in May 2011, in which Mr Parris was only described as a member.Asked about the discrepancy, Det Sgt Rawlins said: “I was never asked to comment on his position in the gang in that statement.”Mr Mussenden later said: “I would suggest to you that they are all friends among themselves and that there is not such a thing as a leader of the 42 gang, as you call it.”Det Sgt Rawlins responded: “I would disagree.”The trial is set to continue today.
