Serial thief admits wounding, denies attempted murder charge

A serial thief who wounded a Pembroke man during a break-in has admitted the attack in Supreme Court.Kimlo Charles Webb, 44, yesterday pleaded guilty to a charge of wounding Larry Woolgar on February 26 with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.The Pembroke resident also admitted entering Mr Woolgar’s Richmond Road home armed with a bladed article, and stealing a wallet containing $400 on the same day.The incident was recorded by CCTV cameras at Mr Woolgar’s home.Webb was initially charged in Magistrates’ Court with attempted murder, aggravated burglary and prowling. He subsequently denied the offences during an arraignments session in June.During a mention in Supreme Court yesterday, Webb admitted breaking into Mr Woolgar’s home with a weapon and wounding him.However he maintained he was not guilty of attempted murder and prowling.Senior Crown Counsel Cindy Clarke said the Crown was satisfied with the guilty pleas, but asked that the other charges be kept on file.Acting Justice Juan Wolffe ordered a social inquiry report on Webb, remanding him into custody until the October arraignments session when a sentencing date can be set.Webb has a long history of previous offences dating back more than 20 years, including stealing, dishonesty and possessing drugs.In April he was sentenced to one year in prison, to be followed by two years on probation, for handling a stolen watch valued at $150.
