A 27-year-old man who was seen by police swaying from left to right while riding his motorbike has been banned from the roads for three years.

Corey Sousa, from Sandys, appeared in Magistrates’ Court where he pleaded guilty to driving while under the influence of alcohol. He also admitted to refusing to take a breathalyser test.

Prosecutor Javone Rogers said that Sousa was riding his bike in front of police officers near the junction of Middle Road and Tee Street in Devonshire on October 19.

He said the officers saw him swaying from left to right and crossing over the centre line.

When he was stopped, police noticed that Sousa’s eyes were bloodshot and his breath smelt of alcohol. He refused to provide a breath sample both at the scene and at Hamilton Police Station.

As well as the ban, Sousa was fined $2,500 instead of the standard $1,500 because he had been disqualified for drink-driving in 2017.
