Canadian charged with importing cannabis

A Canadian has been charged in Magistrates’ Court with importing more than $1 million worth of cannabis into the island.

Radcliff Brown, 54, was also charged with having the substance with intent to supply when he appeared in court yesterday.

Brown, who lives in Mississauga, denied the offences, which allegedly occurred on March 13, and chose to have his case heard in Magistrates’ Court.

Prosecutor Taneka King told the court that the cannabis has an estimated value of between $977,800 and $1.95 million.

In April, Ngongo-Eric Sampassa, also from Canada, was charged with importing and possessing cannabis. He denied the offences in the Supreme Court this week.

Senior magistrate Maxanne Anderson adjourned Mr Brown’s case to August 7 and released him on $25,000 bail until that time.

Mr Brown was also ordered to surrender all travel documents.
