Trial date set for four men charged with 2022 murder
Four men will go on trial in April charged with the 2022 murder of teenager Letrae Doeman.
The four — QuaZori Brangman, Jukai Burgess, Aaron Perinchief and Nasaje Anderson — appeared at an arraignments hearing yesterday.
They have each pleaded not guilty to charges of murder and using a firearm to commit an indictable offence.
Puisne Judge Juan Wolffe set the matter down for trial starting on April 10.
Also in yesterday’s arraignment session, five men pleaded not guilty to a host of charges relating to firearm and drug offences.
Kenrick Christopher and Johnnie Alexander — both from Grenada — along with Terranz Smith, were charged with importing a Glock 9mm pistol and seven rounds of ammunition into Bermuda on or around November 9 last year.
The trio were also charged with conspiring to import an undisclosed quantity of cannabis into the island on the same date.
In addition, Mr Smith along with two other men — Ramar Simmons and Kevin DeRoza — were charged with possession of the same gun, ammunition and cannabis.
The men denied all the charges. Mr Justice Wolffe remanded Mr Christopher, Mr Alexander, and Mr Smith into custody. Bail for Mr Simmons and Mr DeRoza was extended.
The men are to go on trial in October.
Separately and also in the arraignment session, a Brazilian national who pleaded guilty to a string of money laundering-related offences is to be sentenced next month.
Luca Bandeira, 21, had earlier pleaded guilty to possession of $66,080 in criminal funds, possession of a machine to create fake credit cards, and possession of fake credit cards.
The offences took place on June 24 last year.
Bandeira also admitted attempting to steal from the delivery services Sargasso and Pronto and theft of an unknown amount from the same businesses between July 1 and 10 last year. He was remanded in custody.
