Jones powers Cuts to crushing victory

Willow Cuts, 306-9, defeated PHC, 111-9, by 195 runs.Malachi Jones scored 60 and father and son Kevin and Kavon Fubler took three wickets apiece as Willow Cuts easily advanced to the final of the Western Counties on Saturday at Southampton Oval.Jones smashed eight fours and a six in his top knock, coming to the wicket at 102 for four in the 20th over when the match was evenly balanced.Jones lost partners Dexter Basden on 117 and Bergon Spencer soon after as PHC held a slight upper hand at 123 for six. However, a 99-run stand for the seventh wicket between Jones and Kavon Fubler (37) put Cuts back in control before some big hitting later in the innings by George O’Brien (48 from five sixes and two fours) enabled the holders to add 79 in the final 10 overs to pass the 300 mark.Six more runs were added to the Cuts total as PHC were penalised for a slow bowling rate. They also conceded 46 extras, including 35 wides.Dexter Basden’s 46 at the top of the order included seven fours and a six as PHC claimed early wickets around him to have Cuts 31 for three inside the first 10 overs.Jermaine Trott hit a valuable 19 not out batting at number ten. Cal Waldron, the sixth PHC bowler used, claimed three for 53 from his 10 overs while youngster William White took three for 67 off 10 and his new-ball partner and captain, Kevin Tucker, had two for 42 from 10.Even with guest players Tre Manders and Fiqre Crockwell, the target was always going to be a tough one for PHC who lost opener William White in the third over with just three on the board.Number three bat Manders fell cheaply when he offered no shot to a ball pitched outside the off stump from spinner Kevin Fubler and watched as it came back and nicked his off stump.Teenager Devrae Rawlins, a colt for St. George’s in Cup Match, was the high man for PHC with 24 batting at number four while Charles Symons scored 19 and opener 24 while Kevin Dill 18 as veteran Kevin Fubler claimed three for 29 from 10 overs.Kavon Fubler, who started the innings as the wicketkeeper, later turned to his left arm bowling to take three for 28 from 3.5 overs while Jermaine Trott claimed two for 30 off seven as PHC were restricted to 111 for nine from their allotted 50 overs.Willow Cuts will meet Warwick in the final on August 26.
