St David’s hand Rangers shock defeat

Southampton Rangers 114 all outSt David’s 116 for fiveSt David’s toppled league leaders Southampton Rangers yesterday at Southampton Oval to throw the title race wide open heading into the business end of the season.Fresh off their straightforward Western Counties triumph over Willow Cuts the day before, Rangers seemed to come out sluggish and were on the back foot throughout the match.Having lost the toss and sent in by St David’s, only the previous day’s hero, Dion Stovell (42), and Janeiro Tucker (27) managed to reach double figures. Stovell hit eight fours in his knock as the pair put on 54 runs for the fourth wicket.Rudell Pitcher took four wickets for 33 runs, while Del Hollis helped with two wickets for 17 runs.In reply, the Islanders got a valuable 48 run partnership for the sixth wicket between Fiqre Crockwell (31 not out) and Pitcher (26 not out) to reach their target.Crockwell’s innings included four fours and a six, while Justin Pitcher also pitched in with 26.Derrick Brangman did all he could in the loss, taking two wickets for 26 runs, while Dwayne Leverock grabbed one wicket for 29 runs.PHC 70 all outSomerset 75 for oneSomerset made it three wins out of three with their emphatic win over PHC at Somerset Cricket Club yesterday.Batting first, PHC were skittled out for a meagre 70 runs, with Justin Corday grabbing five wickets to put the visitors under pressure from the outset.Jacobi Robinson claimed three wickets, while Greg Maybury helped himself to a wicket.In reply, Maybury (26) and Jordan Desilva (29) got the hosts over the line and kept the points in the west end.Devonshire 174Western Stars 138One day after losing to Stars in the Central Counties final, Devonshire Rec. gained sweet revenge with a 36-run win at the Rec.Stars had ripped through the heart of the Devonshire batting to have them 82-7 at one stage before some brutal hitting by Jamaican Keneik Wallen in the tailend led Rec’s recovery as he and Lamont Brangman (11) added 87 for the eighth wicket. Wallen’s top knock of 75 came from six sixes and five fours and enabled Rec to post a challenging total. Opener Keishun Smith was the only other batsman in double figures with 22 as Seth Campbell took four for 25 from seven overs and Philip Thomas three for 33 off nine.Stars lost wickets at regular intervals as they fell short in their run chase. Number eight batsman Rohan Davis was their high scorer with 29 from five boundaries while opener Temeiko Wilson scored 19 and captain Nyon Steede and Philip Thomas 14 apiece.Jodie Maronie claimed three for 27 from 10 overs and Sean DeGraff three for 34 off 10 while captain Steven Bremar finished with two for 23 from five overs.
