Southampton Rangers captain Dion Stovell congratulated newly-crowned Logic Premier Division champions St David’s but has set his sights on winning the remaining trophies available.Rangers finished runners-up to St David’s by 12 points as the Islanders ended their campaign undefeated.Praising the champions after their success, Stovell said: “First of all, I want to congratulate St David’s on their league triumph, they have shown all season that they were up for the challenge.“To go undefeated in the league isn’t an easy task, they did what was needed to be done in order to become champions so I tip my hat to them.“The difference in winning the title and coming just short is doing the finer things of the game good.“They stuck to their game plan throughout the season and as a team they helped one another when things were not in their favour.“You have to be ready and up for any task that is presented to you and that’s what they did.“In order to be the best you have to beat the good teams, they beat everyone so there isn’t any argument about who was the better team over the entire season.”The difference atop the standings was only 12 points, or the result between the two clubs that saw St David’s beat Rangers by five wickets at Lords. In the newly formatted league, the top eight teams will feature in the Logic Knockout Championship, with Rangers set to lock horns with Somerset. It hasn’t been a bad season for the Southampton club, although the league title was their top priority. They have won two of the three cups available to them — the Western Counties and BELCO Cup currently sit in their trophy cabinet. They successfully defended their Counties title on Saturday with a four-wicket win over Warwick at White Hill Field. While he praised his rivals for their consistency, Stovell issued a stern warning of what is expected for the remainder of the season.“We still have a lot to play for, there is still the Knockout Cup and the Twent20 competition so we will look to win those games as well.“In Somerset, we have to stick to what we do best and that is apply pressure from the beginning.“The season has been fairly successful, we won the Counties and BELCO Cup so in that sense we are happy.”
