All to play for as quartet battle for semi-final spots

Winner takes all: Kavon Fubler and Willow Cuts must beat Flatts today(Photo by Nicola Muirhead)

Willow Cuts and Flatts will battle today to determine who joins St David’s from group A into the semi-finals of the Twenty20 Tournament, but the real interest will centre around group B where all four teams are still in the running for semi-final places.

Somerset are in the driver’s seat in group B after picking up two wins without playing a match, after Cleveland and Southampton Rangers forfeited their matches on May 10 at Somerset.

That has set the stage for some intriguing matches as Bailey’s Bay play their three matches this weekend and Rangers, the defending champions, and Cleveland go in search of two wins to keep alive their hopes of reaching next weekend’s semi-finals.

Cuts and Flatts meet at Somerset, with the winners taking the runners-up spot, which puts them up against the group B winners next Saturday.

Rangers, who only just claimed the 2014 title with victory over Willow Cuts in the final two weeks ago, face two must-win matches today when they host Bailey’s Bay at Southampton Oval at 11am and then take on Cleveland in the afternoon.

Bay then close out the group schedule with two matches at Sea Breeze Oval against Cleveland and Somerset tomorrow.

The Twenty20 competition for First Division teams will conclude with St George’s playing Somerset Bridge in the lone group D match following the withdrawal of Warwick. That means both St George’s and Bridge will advance to the semi-finals, with the outcome of the match at Wellington Oval tomorrow deciding who wins the group.

However, group C could finish in a three-way tie following the match between PHC and Western Stars at PHC Field at 11am. Both Devonshire Rec and Stars already have a win and if PHC beat Stars then all three teams will finish with a 1-1 record.

If Stars win they will top the group with two wins and take Devonshire Rec into the semi-final with them.
