Political party leaders Michael Dunkley and David Burt have been selected for the same celebrity team for the annual Hiscox Celebrity Cricket Festival on Saturday, just three days before the general election.

The match at the National Sports Centre will see the celebrity team, which also features Nandi Outerbridge, the Minister of Social Development and Sport, DJs Power Girl, Chubb and Nikita Robinson, former WWF wrestler John Layfield, ex-cricketer Dwayne “Sluggo’ Leverock and Jeremy Pinchin, the CEO of Hiscox, playing against the Under-11 cricketers. The match will be a fundraiser for the BCB youth programme.

The activities at the north field will start at 8am with the 11 and under league skills and drills tournament, before the Celebrities match against the 11 and under All-Star team starts at 1pm.

There will once again be a Bermuda Cricket Board raffle with all proceeds going to the BCB Youth Development Programme which provides free cricket opportunities to boys and girls aged five to 19. Raffle tickets are $5 each and include many prizes valued at over $2,000, including a Samsung galaxy S8 from One Communications, six months free gym membership at the Athletic Club, two $500 travel vouchers, $500 grocery voucher from Lindo’s and one night stay at Cambridge Beaches and Elbow Beach.

During the day there will be free children’s entertainment including face painting, bouncy castle, zip lines, cricket games and slide. Lunch and free T-shirts will be provided while supplies last.

This event was the brainchild of our current chairman, Rob Childs, as a way to celebrate Bermuda’s 400th anniversary in 2009.

The support of so many senior island figures in giving up their time to support the cricketers is part of making the day so special and sets an example to our future leaders some of whom we hope will come from these fantastic young players.”
